However, if the companyââ¬â¢s management prepares well for international opportunities through strategic planning and timely implementation, the task would be easier. Strategic management involves a number of functions and actions by all key stakeholders. The actions and functions are performed mainly by the board of directors in consultation with the top management and employees. Identifying and selecting a global governing structure, management systems, networking global o perations, managing physical and non-tangible assets including employees and enhancing their capabilities is critical to strategic global management. It also involves enhancing sharing of information across boarders. Do you Hear the People Sing Les Miserables Essay Looking at the political situation in the historical novel Les Miserables, the song ââ¬Å"Do you hear the people sing? â⬠is apparently a political song with the objective to express their disagreement towards injustices and stiff culture during those times. The character apparently struggle for redemption and revolution, and are joined by an ensemble that includes student revolutionaries, prostitutes, low class workers and other groups that are consider inferior. The first one who sang is Enjolras, a charismatic leader of a French group of revolutionary students. In his part specially the lines ââ¬Å"Do you hear the people sing?.. It is the music of a people/ Who will not be slaves again! â⬠, one can really see his belief in democratic freedom and equality. In his lines, Enjolras as a leader, rouses the revolutionaries and declares that it is now time to strike. The lines of Combeferre on the other hand suggest something attainable and practicable on how to be free. He motivates the people to join and to be involved personally as his lines says ââ¬Å"Will you join in our crusade? / Who will be strong and stand with me? â⬠. A Rebel on His Way to Adulthood in The Catcher in the Rye :: The Catcher in the Rye Essays
Ever since I read ââ¬ËThe Catcher in the Ryeââ¬â¢ ââ¬â I was 17 then ââ¬â I have tried to explain myself why this book is so significant. Why is it so hated and adored at the same time? I must confess I hadnââ¬â¢t heard anything about Salinger till I watched ââ¬ËConspiracy Theoryââ¬â¢. If you donââ¬â¢t remember Iââ¬â¢ll tell you that the movie was about this taxi driver Jerry Fletcher who traced conspiracy in everything and all of sudden one of his theories came to be true. Mel Gibson was incredible playing a man who was funny and serious, brilliant and a bid mad. And this queer person couldnââ¬â¢t feel ââ¬Ënormalââ¬â¢ if he didnââ¬â¢t buy a copy of ââ¬ËThe Catcher in the Ryeââ¬â¢ every day. And that impressed me so much that after that I bought the book myself. I donââ¬â¢t know why I did it. Generally, I hate to be told what to do, less what to read. But at that time perhaps I needed to feel ââ¬Ënormalââ¬â¢ too. Now, four years later, I read it again. And I was a bit nervous about it. After all there is this disaster called ââ¬Ëtimeââ¬â¢ and we are all infected by it but there is no cure. The symptom is that we change but not only physically. Our points of view, ideals and beliefs also change. That is why I was so anxious about reading the book again but at the same time I was curious to find out how much I have changed. Actually, I didnââ¬â¢t remember most of it. I could recall only my feelings. And that is not a recommended approach towards a book. But I donââ¬â¢t consider myself much of a critic but an observer and an interpreter. After all readers, incl. critics who are also readers, respond to a book the way it has affected their inner self. Thatââ¬â¢s why I would like to trace the difficult path towards adulthood that passes by various social and individual stops. For me, that is what makes the book so significant. Because we all struggled and will continue to struggle such psychological battles on our way towards ââ¬Ëknow thyselfââ¬â¢. I would like to begin with the way some critics approached Salingerââ¬â¢s work. Although each of them expressed different points of view which are too extreme I would like to consider them and try to find the truth somewhere in the middle. Ann Goodman commented that ââ¬ËHolden was so completely self-centered that any other characters who wandered through the book, with the exception of his sister, Phoebe, had no authenticity at allââ¬â¢.1 Of course, itââ¬â¢s not so surprising for a person that passes such a

Ibm- Overcome the Stress of Can’t Take Off
How might IBM go about improving its flexible vacation policy to help alleviate some of the stress experience by employees who feel like they canââ¬â¢t take time off? The flexible vacation policy is aim to give employees the option to take limitless days off creates a better work environment. Employees have the autonomy to manage their own workload and take vacation, sick or personal days whenever they need to and for as long as they need. There is no unused time at the end of the year, there is no carry forward into the next year, and there is no payout of accrued days when the employment relationship ends.Flexible vacation policy can increase the productivity since the employee can choose the where the location they doing their job and when they are doing, these can lead employees more willing to contribute to the organization if they felt their working environment is comfortable. Otherwise, the traditional vacation policy allocates a specific number of vacation, sickness, and p ersonal days to each employee depending on length of time at the company. Sometimes employees are able to carry over a certain portion of unused vacation time into a new year or they can sell back their unused days to the company. To tracking these days off using costly and time consuming accounting and administration methods. Now there are many companies using flexible vacation policy, such as Netflix, IBM, or Morningstar. Since 2003, IBM had flexible vacation time for every employee. People who work for the company simply give their supervisors a heads up, but otherwise, take time off when they want it. Instead of tracking the hours of employees work, the electronics company has implemented what it calls a ââ¬Å"results only work environment,â⬠where workers are measured on achievement alone.Although flexibility vacation policy can be benefits to the organization, supervisor and employee, flexible work arrangements but it also pose a series of challenges and disadvantages. Th e stresses experienced by employees who feel like they canââ¬â¢t take time off mostly due to the ongoing project which in on hand, and many colleague taking time off all the same time. These are the two reasons always caused discontented happened in an organization. To deal with these problems IBM trying out a new vacation policy, in which fixed vacation rules are replaced by informal agreements between employees and their immediate supervisor. The guiding principle is that the work must get done. As long as this is the case, employees can take as much vacation as they want, even on short notice. Avoid ruining the beautiful vacation by being call back during the vacation it is better to hand over or replace the job to someone or make sure the task is fully completed before the holiday tune is on. To make this policy going on effectively that is needed the cooperation of all employees because supervisor concerns about equity.Supervisors worry about being fair to employees when they know everyone canââ¬â¢t have flexibility. The key is making sure that the process is the same that every employeeââ¬â¢s request is fairly considered, even though the outcome may vary. The present of technology in flexible vacation policy may help IBM to overcome the problem of having many colleagues taking vacation at the same time. IBM can create a page for all IBMââ¬â¢s workers-the management information system, to update the newest information and the vacation date employees wanted or planning to take off.Management of information system is any organized of people, hardware, software, communication networks, data resources and policies and procedures that store, retrieves, transforms and disseminates information in an organization. The system can reduce the chance of error occur, such as forgot to inform their head or supervisor, clash date with colleagues vacation date and so on. To manage this page is needed a person to in charge, to allocate employees leave or vacati on based on the system data which updated by employees. Even there is flexible vacation policy but still need some workforce to carry on the organization activities.Besides that, the communications between organization, supervisor and employee also can reduce the imbalance emotion of the workforce because of they canââ¬â¢t take time off. Annual or semi-annually meeting or a gathering for all workers should be maintain even because of the technologyââ¬â¢s reach can provide non specific location for workers to contact with their supervisor or head via computer or cell phone by using video conference, e-mail, mms and so on, but a face-to-face meeting can brings a lot of advantages sometimes. It can avoid conflict happened by using text conversation, it can shows the sincerity and so on.No matter how flexible the vacation policy is, the contraction between all stages of workforce should be maintain and fix in a time. Example, a general meeting of every department in held on every second week of the month, it is the chance for each department head to meet their workforce and share the newest information in between them. Other than that, company should organize two or more person work in a team so that if one of the member who take day off, there is another person who will replace the position, it can reduce the cases of calling back the worker who is on vacation.Synergy always can make task to be more efficiency and done with more effectively. If use this way, it brings a lot of advantages. First of all, colleague of the member who is on vacation can response on the continuing job which can save more time and money. Second, it can increase the satisfaction of workers inside the company because they can get their happiness vacation without the obstruction of the job. Grouping work can also increase the effectiveness and efficiency. â⬠¢ Resisting change.Whether itââ¬â¢s the labor shortage, or labor mismatch, the brain drain, the traffic, the new demograp hics, or technology, there are many profound and reasonable reasons to change the way we work. Being proactive in the face of change is much better than being reactive in this fast-paced business environment. Fears of abuse. There are some employees who may take advantage of their work situation, no matter what the policy. As one supervisor put it, ââ¬Å"There are always a few bad apples. They have to be dealt with.Itââ¬â¢s much better to manage for the good apples. â⬠If employees are well managed, abuses will be kept to a minimum whether the employee works on a flexible arrangement or not. â⬠¢ Skeletons in the closet. Just because flexibility was tried with one employee in the past and didnââ¬â¢t work doesnââ¬â¢t mean that the same outcome is inevitable if it is tried againââ¬âespecially if the individual is well matched with the flexible arrangement. Mistakes can be used as important tools in making improvements. It takes more time to manage. Interviews wit h managers at JPMorgan Chase who supervise employees using some flexible work arrangement reveal far fewer problems than managers anticipated: 95 percent of managers say it does not require more time to manage people on flexible arrangements; 88 percent of managers who are managing employees on flexible work arrangements report no negative impact on their ability to supervise; and 66 percent say managing flexible work arrangements enhanced their management skills.

Initially, Hussain sold chocolate in the market every morning in order to earn income for his family. Due to his unique habits of reading, his uncle offered a classical book for him to read. After Hussain finished reading the book, he got an offer from an old man to sell that book at double price. For gaining more money, he bought two more copies of the same book and managed to sell them within three hours. He noticed thatà people are in need of good books. Hence, he decided to sell books along with his chocolate business. When Hussain realized the profits earned from book sales much better than the chocolate sales, he stopped his chocolate business. He distributed free chocolate as the marketing strategy for his new business of selling books. He was a good reader as well as a good trader. He bought the books from small hawkers or vendors and successfully sold the books with double profits. He still practices his reading habits while selling the books in the market. However, he faced the problem of lacking a shop to keep all the books. Hussain was an ambitious person. He looked at things differently by believing the book sales can gain more profits in the future. He asked his uncle to convert his fatherââ¬â¢s steel workshop into a bookshop. He owned his bookshop and it was the first bookshop in that area. This made him became the monopoly in that market since he is the sole bookseller at there. The strategic location of his new bookshop was convenient to the customers and be the success factor of his business. At the same time, Hussain applied to work in the government as a store keeper. He could convince his sponsor to supply the needed office stationery at a low price. Since there was no specific buyer for the stationery with good system in servicing orders and delivering products, Hussainââ¬â¢s bookshop became the only office supplier for the government services. Many government departments, offices, and companies became his valuable customers. Thus, the high growth in demand led four times expansions to its first size of the business. Due to the need of money to cover the purchase in bulk from China, Hussain decided to sell his bookshop. When Hussain solved his financial problems, he established his new company for office supplies near the bookshop. He informed all his previous customers about his new option of setting up a company which specialized in stationery. He left his job as a store keeper and rented a small office equipped with fax and telephone. His employed two workers and found an appropriate store in a cheap location near the office. This change reduced the cost to the lowest. He started to buy stationery abroad. By applying JIT techniques, his companyââ¬â¢s revenues and profits increased dramatically. The customer service was well managed and theà company focused on wholesale orders. Hussain leased back his ex-bookshop at a lower rental price. He reopened the bookshop in an innovative way by providing all the educational products required by individuals. He closed the new office and relocated it inside the bookshop. The bookshop served individual customers, whereas the office served wholesale orders. By doing so, Hussainââ¬â¢s business served for both types of customers. Moreover, the products were displayed in the bookshop and facilitated the wholesale buyers to see the products physically and test them before taking orders. The advantage of testing the products created value added to his business. Furthermore, Hussain be the first who use the new technology that just entered into the country. He bought the computer with Windows95 for reducing transaction time. It is a solution to feed all customersââ¬â¢ data, accelerate the delivery of customerââ¬â¢s orders, and get typed invoices. To what extent was Macbeth the architect of his own downfall Essay Example
To what extent was Macbeth the architect of his own downfall Essay Example To what extent was Macbeth the architect of his own downfall Paper To what extent was Macbeth the architect of his own downfall Paper Essay Topic: Macbeth Trifles The play Macbeth attempts to communicate to readers that once someone begins to use violence in his or her quest for power, it is hard to halt them. It also seeks to show the corrupting and demoralizing effect of ambition on any person, regardless of their integrity. Macbeth, the main character, is the protectorate of everything good, and shows the qualities of a hero. However, during the course of the play, Macbeth changes drastically under the influence of power; power he has acquired through ambition and unjust murder. Macbeth goes to great lengths in order to maintain this status of power and finds himself killing and harming people without remorse to keep his status. However, none of this would have occurred if it hadnt been for the witches, the characters who are to blame for Macbeths downfall. The witches play a key part in the play and are the representation of evil in mankind. Although witches are mythical beings now, back when the play was written they were very real. These witches represent evil in the play as well and are the ones responsible for causing all of Macbeths and all subsequent problems. From the beginning of the play it is made clear that they gain nothing from harming Macbeth and only wish to bring harm to other people. For these reasons they are the characters with the most blame upon their shoulders. The witches set things in motion by giving Macbeth a set of prophecies, the most important one being All hail Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafter. Here we find the source of all problems in the play. The witches had counted on Macbeths own ambition to push him into committing terrible acts with horrific consequence in order to make sure that prophecy would come and true, so that he would become king. At the same time, Banquo, a good friend of Macbeths who is present when the witches speak to him, is not fooled by the witches. Banquo recognizes from the very beginning that the witches mean no good and realizes that the instruments of darkness tell us truths; win us with honest trifles, to betrays in deepest consequence. What this means is that the witches are not to be trusted. They may have told Macbeth some truth but in the end they mean him harm. Act 4, Scene 1 supports this argument. Macbeth wishes to speak to the witches a second time in order to receive a second set of predictions. The predictions he receives are made out to deceive him and take advantage of the fact that he yearns for power. One very important prediction, the second one, given by the witches is, Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn the power of man, for none of woman born shall harm Macbeth. It would appear that this prediction can only mean good because, at first glance, it looks as if no one born of a woman can harm Macbeth. However Banquo is proven right later on when Macbeth realizes the witches were speaking to him in paradoxs in order to confuse him, having him misinterpret key prophecies. Macbeth states be these juggling fiends no more believd that palter with us in a double sense, that keep the word of promise to our ear and break it to our hope. In this line Macbeth realizes that the witches have betrayed him. They made it appear to him that he was invincible, unable to be killed by any man born of a woman. Yet they failed to tell him that a man born of Cesarean birth, like Macduff, could still kill him. This is the reason behind his death. He had trusted the witches to speak the truth, yet their paradoxical predictions, which were meant to create a sense of ambition and total power, caused him to underestimate the enemy and eventually led to his downfall. Although it is possible to throw the blame onto somebody else, such as Lady Macbeth, who persuades Macbeth into committing the initial murder, it is undisputable that without the witches none of the events would have occurred. Even Macbeth cannot be held accountable for his actions because the witches took advantage of him. They relied on mans ambition and his strive for power, all they had to do is give him the initial nudge. For this reason they decided to present Macbeth with these predictions, in order to raise his hopes. Macbeth was manipulated by the witches and therefore everything resulting from his speaking to them (all of the murders and Macbeths own downfall) are the witches fault, which is why all other arguments are rendered invalid and the witches are entirely to blame.

Managing Diversity at Cityside Financial Services Essay - 2
Managing Diversity at Cityside Financial Services - Essay Example Challenges of diversity for hiring, management, development and retention practice as well as solution are discussed with respect to the case study. Ethical and legal issue of strategic talent management and development and Cityside Financial Services are discussed. Human Capital The importance of human capital is gaining increasing significance in the recent competitive environment. Corporations are identifying the magnitude of investing and allocating the resources in their human capital. This is due to the perception that in order to stay on a leading position in the global economy, they have to appreciate and develop their human capital (Alta Associates, 2006). Impact of Diversity on Organization There are several changes in the cultural aspects of an organization that complicates the management to understand the cultural diversity and its affect upon an organization. An organization can be affected through primary and secondary diversity of human resources. The primary diversity embraces ethnicity, age, race and abilities or qualities. The secondary diversity comprises of educational background, religious beliefs, work experience, marital status and person belonging to a region. All these factors of the primary and the secondary diversity have a great impact on organizations in terms of performance, conflicts, disputes and other related aspects of an organization.... The affect of diversity upon an individualââ¬â¢s career and an organizational effectiveness is illustrated through a diagram represented below in figure 1. Source: (Moon, 1997). The model represented in figure 1 demonstrates that an individualââ¬â¢s group associations such as gender, age and race can be analyzed on the basis of three levels namely organizational, intergroup and individual. These three factors will collectively assist in determining the diverse environmental impact upon the organization. This environment influences individualsââ¬â¢ and organizationsââ¬â¢ outcomes that may be in the nature of achievement outcomes or it may be effective outcomes. These outcomes of an individual might have an impact on organizational productivity, quality as well as other factors (Moon, 1997). Impact of Diversity on Human Capital Management Diversity driven workforce of an organization has a great impact upon human capital management. The diverse workforce may not ensure prop er decision making, creativity, flexibility along with several other aspects. Therefore, unique and multicultural workforce needs to be refined and promoted so that the workforce gets a chance to express their viewpoints. Higher employee turnover and conflicts occur when there is poor diversity management. In this situation, ââ¬Ëvalue in diversityââ¬â¢ approach is required in order to derive benefit from positive effects of diversity and in turn helps to avoid the effects that are negative in nature. There are organizations that value diversity and take its advantage by encouraging the workforce for participating in organizational decisions and develop their perspectives and skills (McMillan-Capehar & Aaron, 2009). Challenges of Diversity for Hiring, Management,
